Music Videos: Geniuses of Percussive Guitar

Posted on Mar 8th, 2007 by Michael : loves you Michael
I love playing the guitar - especially in the polyphonic, percussive style known as "two-hand tapping" - and it's artists like these whose exceptional talent helps keep me inspired and passionate about my learning.  These are, by my measure, the most ludicrously awesome percussive guitarists I have ever heard.  (And each of these artists has several more videos on YouTube, if you get hooked.)  Enjoy!
Dominic Frasca "John's Not Taken"

Randy Collins "Look at the Green Light"

Andreas Kapsalis "Bubblegum Enlightenment"

Justin King - "Phunkdified"

Kaki King - "Playing With Pink Noise"

Adam Fulara - "BWV 848" (J.S. Bach)

Bob Kilgore - "Tap Dance"

Bob Kilgore has also invented one of the most badass guitar accessories I've ever seen: the "harmonic bridge," which is in effect a capo that creates harmonics instead of fully fretted notes, and allows you to fret notes "upstream" of the capo itself. He has a patent on it but is still making them all by hand, so I am only the 15th person in the world to use this awesome piece of technology.  Yay!  (You can find videos of Bob playing with the harmonic capo here:

And lastly, see if you can spot the influences in my playing:
Michael Garfield - "Bête Moire" (20 May 2007, University of Kansa

Michael Garfield - "Autocatalysis" (28 July 2006, Rock N Soul Caf

If I've piqued your interest, I too have several more videos, here:
